Plagiarism, Cryptomnesia and Collusion Detection Tool

Mighty big words I got from the site........This website http://www.doccop.com/
can be a teacher's best friend.  It will find those students that like to copy and paste from the Internet and not exercise that great brain!!  Unlike http://turnitin.com/static/index.php this one is free.

Sharing Promethean Flipcharts

Sharing your flipcharts with others can be a problem.  When students are absent it would be nice for them to be able to view the lesson from home.  They do not need all of the cute actions involved with the chart in the classroom, only the information.  This can be done in several ways.  Here is one way.

Make sure all of the pages in your flipchart have all of the information showing.  Then PDF your flipchart.  You can use one of the free PDF programs like Primo PDF.  Once it is PDF'd you can then upload it to a slidesharing site like http://www.slideshare.net/ .  The link to the uploaded file can then be sent to the parents or put on your webpage.  The student can then view each page in your flipchart.  If you have a blog Slideshare will also give you the code needed to embed the chart into your blog.  That is how I put my flipchart "How the West was Promethean'd" into this blog.

and this huge list of all kinds of rubric makers http://www.teach-nology.com/web_tools/rubrics/

Here is one from www.recipes4success.com/tools
You do not have to be a member to use this one..... it will not save your rubric unless you are a member but it will still print.

My Old Websites

I used this years ago.  I can remember when we thought this was the greatest idea ever!!  http://www.ikeepbookmarks.com/    There are still some great links to sites that are categorized by subject, topic, and grade level.  The login is ggrissom.  There is no password.  Remember, this is old like I am so some of the links may not work anymore.

Gmail and Sub Accounts

Gmail allows you to create sub accounts linked to an individual Gmail account. So, a teacher could have 20 permanent email accounts that are all delivered into one teacher account.  When setting up the accounts I would set up a different gmail account just for this.  You can set it up in many ways but one way is as follows:
if the teacher account is teachername@gmail.com, all you have to do is add a “+studentname” before the @ symbol to make a linked account. Therefore mail sent to teachername+studentname@gmail.com will go straight to teachername@gmail.com.  This can help with those few students in middle school that do not have an email account.  The parent will not have to worry about it being used in other instances.  A permission slip may be needed.

Ways to Use a Flip Camera

I started using a Flip camera before they became mainstream. I wish I had stock in the company!! I sold many cameras by showing educators how easy they are to use.  Video has always been a scary thing to teachers.  But with this camera it is no longer a task that requires practice and hours of effort.  This slideshow is growing as teachers add to it.  Ways to use a Flip Camera

Webinars

Angie and I did a webinar on Tuesday night using elluminate http://www.elluminate.com/
Several teachers joined us as we navigated around the software.  It is really a great way to instruct teachers on any number of items.  You can use a PowerPoint presentation, go to your desktop, send a document to the participants, and allow participants to work on the white board.  You can choose to allow the participants the chance to have the microphone to ask questions or they can type their question in the chat area. Our educational service center trains you and has made this available for free.  Check out the demo on their page.  Instructional technology at its best!!

American Idol

Another night.........more bad choices I suppose!

Monday, March 22, 2010

Off the topic!! Contest in our school: predict the American Idol winner. Being an old hippie I picked Krystal. We then have to pick the bottom 3 each week and the one we think should get kicked off. I am lousy at it. However, in my defense, I think anyone who takes a Rolling Stones song and makes it into a reggae song has to go!! Come on people!!! The young girls thought he was too cute so he was saved.
